Today, sustainable development is more than just a simple concept: more and more decision-makers are incorporating it into their strategy. For this approach to be effective, it needs to be quantifiable. AFAQ 26000 Sustainable Development provides a measurable platform that the company can adapt to its own needs to assess environmental, social and financial performance.

Using AFAQ 26000 Sustainable Development, a company is assessed according to two sets of data: strategy and practices, and performance indicators.

  • The first set of criteria revolves around the company's specific organisation; its vision and values, what it's producing, its engagement with the community as a whole, HR strategy, etc. There are 5 criteria worth 500 points.
  • The second set of data is based on the company's performance, based on triple bottom-line reporting, incorporating financial, social and environmental results.

The company is marked according to the level of development it has achieved in each area, out of possible total of 1000. The name 1000NR refers to 1000 New Responsibilities. The final score defines the level of (social) responsibility that the company has achieved, out of 4 levels. This original score can be used as a baseline to measure future improvements, enabling the company to measure its progress through the different levels.
